Literal Translation: “Geek”; “obsessive fan”
Overview: The ‘Otaku’ know who they are and are proud of it. Let’s get some solidarity going guys.
In Japan, otaku
is a slang term for an obsessive fan of any one particular theme, topic,
or hobby. The otaku in Japan are many and varied - there are otaku for every
interest – whether it is an obsession over train sets or video games.
Overseas in the west, the term otaku has been changed somewhat to refer specifically to a fan of Japanese anime (animation) and/or manga (comics) – these fans proudly refer to themselves as “otaku”.
